Four new Alexander Teachers Graduate from the Training Centre in Galway

2012 Graduates from the Alexander Technique Training Centre, Galway, Ireland

Congratulations to Sauli Niemelä, Aisling Morgan, Anya Tomte and Teresa Turner who graduated on 2nd December. Due to the weather the graduation took place for the first time at the Centre itself. Outside it was a windy and wet day, but noone noticed during the celebrations by the fireside. The music, laughter and dance lasted for hours as the new teachers realised that they had all accomplished a great and worthy task. We hope they enjoy this very fulfilling career and wish them the very best. We hope they stay in touch!

Musicians' and singers' workshop with Vivien Mackie (Scotland) - Stillness in the Eye of the Storm, 13th-15th March

Vivien Mackie, Alexander Technique Teacher and cellist

Vivien is a cellist who had the rare good fortune to study extensively with the famous cellist and teacher-extraordinary Pablo Casals. The exciting parallels between his teaching and that of F.M. Alexander led her to train with Walter Carrington from 1970-73. Later on, singing lessons with Angela Caine, and collaboration with her in workshops, opened up a whole new field of discovery. She draws on her learning from these three remarkable teachers in her work today, and on what she learned from the three year Alexander Training Course she ran in Australia whose students were all musicians.

Change your Posture, Change your Life - Introductory Weekend Workshop with Richard Brennan, 11th-12th February

Richard Brennan, Alexander Technique Teacher

Millions of people today are very concerned about improving the way they look and as a result spend a great deal of money on their clothes, cosmetics and at hair salons. Yet, most people would agree that one of the most attractive qualities about a person is the way they sit, stand and move – or in other words their posture.

As children typically we all have beautiful posture, ease, flexibility and grace of movement, but as we grow older, it is an entirely different story. From an early age, we gradually start to lose our ease and of grace movement, as we start to tense our muscles in reaction to life's worries, fears and concerns. As a consequence our posture begins to deteriorate as our shoulders become hunched; our neck and back become stiff and inflexible, and many of us begin to either sit in a slumped or 'pulled down' fashion. This has very serious long term consequences to our health in adult life.

During this weekend we will have a look at what causes poor posture in the first place and use the Alexander Technique to improve posture which in turn can greatly improve our health, especially by eliminating neck and back pain.

For more information about Richard please see his biography page.
